A binding international AI safety treaty will not be handed to us. It has to be argued for, organized for, and paid for. The Nakada Foundation takes no money from AI laboratories or their investors, so our independence depends entirely on people like you.
Online donations are not live yet. Payment processors require a certified nonprofit entity, and the foundation's registration is still being finalized. In the meantime, register your interest and we will let you know the moment giving opens, or contact us to arrange a gift today.
The Nakada Foundation is in its earliest stage and runs entirely on donations. We are an advocacy campaign, not a research lab, and campaigns cost money: staff, organizers, policy work, and the reach to inform the millions who have not yet understood the stakes.
Dollar for dollar, a gift here is one of the highest-impact ways to lower the risk from advanced AI. Technical AI safety already commands the field's money and its brightest people, and for all that effort no one has shown how to reliably control a system far smarter than the humans who build it. On the timeline the labs are racing toward, that problem very likely will not be solved in time — and if it isn't, the only protection left is the choice not to deploy such systems until they can be made safe. That choice is political, and it is badly underfunded. Backing it is where your money does the most good for humanity.
Your gift builds the political constituency for an enforceable treaty on advanced AI: the policy advocacy, coalition building, and public education that make government action possible. We commit to publishing significant gifts above a transparency threshold we will set publicly, and we take no funding from AI laboratories or the investors backing them.
Prefer to give at scale, or through a foundation or donor-advised fund? We would be glad to talk. Contact us about major and institutional gifts.
Until secure payments are switched on, no card is charged and no payment details are collected on this page.
AI safety research pulls in billions from the labs it studies. The independent advocacy working for enforceable law gets almost none of it. Your donation funds that second kind of work.
Only governments can write the law that binds the labs. Your donations pay for the policy research, legislative outreach, and expert testimony that put compute governance and an international AI safety agreement on the agenda — and keep them there.
Because politicians follow public opinion, we put money behind the writing, media, and cultural work that closes the gap between what the scientific community already knows about AI existential risk and what the public understands.
A treaty this ambitious needs a wide coalition behind it. Your support funds the organizing that brings researchers, faith communities, civil society, and concerned citizens into a constituency large enough for elected officials to act on.
Leave your email and we will notify you the moment secure online donations go live — along with occasional briefings on where the money goes and what it is achieving. Not able to give right now? Give your time instead.
